Foreign degrees, diplomas, certificates, or credentials (acquired outside of any State of the U.S., the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, or any territory or possession of the U.S.) that are relevant to the subject of study of an international student planning to immigrate to the US must be assessed by a credential evaluation agency to receive credit toward the qualification. The Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) serves to achieve this goal. The ECA highlights the US equivalency of your credentials. Different ECAs are available for various purposes and conditions to immigrate to the US. Deciding on which one you need and how to apply it appropriately can be overwhelming.

International students who want to live and work in the United States of America must apply for an ECA for immigration purposes. Typically, only the evaluation of the credentials for the highest level of education is necessary. An evaluation of the Bachelor’s degree, for instance, is not required if the highest level of education attained is a Master’s degree (or higher). Nonetheless, this application process is not as straightforward as it may seem, especially if you are a graduate of a Chinese university in which case you must first attain the verification reports of your credentials from the relevant authority in China. Applicants are also required to obtain English translations of any non-English documents before submitting them to the chosen credential evaluation service.
ECA applications, hence, are time-consuming and pretty complex, especially for Chinese graduates. The slightest error could land you in the wrong corner of the court. And here’s where we step in with our expertise! We can make these applications hassle-free for you by assisting you in the verification process of your Chinese Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree certificates and transcripts.
Getting an ECA
A document-by-document report is mandatory for pursuing higher education, employment, and immigration to the United States. Chinese university graduates are required to submit comprehensive Chinese and English transcripts detailing every course they took, along with their grades and total credits for ECA applications. It is also compulsory to submit English verification reports of the educational credentials (degree certificates and transcripts) obtained from the Center for Student Services and Development (CSSD). To acquire the verification reports from the CSSD, it is essential to have a CHSI account registered (a Chinese mobile phone number is necessary for this).
The CHSI website is exclusively in Chinese and the application process is quite complicated. Translations of the content or the pages will not be accurate and given the delicate nature of the whole application process, the tiniest of mistakes could obstruct your submissions resulting in you never receiving your verification reports. Our company offers ECA services that comprise the verification of Chinese educational qualifications as well. Once the verification reports are obtained, the ECA applications can begin. Applicants can request an evaluation from a member organization of one of the two national associations of credential evaluation services- the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and the Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE). WES is a member of NACES and is the most popular organization offering ECA services. WES evaluations are valid for 5 years.
Oftentimes, applicants come across multiple stumbling blocks which hamper the application process and end up delaying the submissions or even getting their accounts blocked bringing their applications to an abrupt incomplete end. Applicants would then have to make additional payments to get the system unblocked and to continue with the processing and might even need to wait for months again to make this happen. For example, WES has the right to designate any applications “inactive” if they are still incomplete 180 days from the initial application’s payment date. Once the application is considered inactive, no refunds or credits will be given. Reactivating and continuing processing applications that have been considered inactive will need payment of an additional 50 USD reactivation charge. Minor inaccuracies on your part may thus transpire into disheveled plans for the future!
We know how stressful all these can be for you. We understand and we plan to make it all incredibly simple for you with our proficiency in the area! Plan your future and let us implement it for you! To avoid unnecessary delays, you are encouraged to gather your documents and contact us well in advance of the deadlines. Note that it would generally take 6 – 7 weeks to complete the whole process and receive the ECA report, given there are no hitches concerning the student’s details (discrepancies in names, etc.) or documents during the verification process on CHSI.
